General Notes:
John Johnston holding marriage certificate Stan and family travelled to England in 1932 and stayed for 16 years. Residing first at Croydon, Surrey then moving to Sussex. While there he served with the Home Guard, worked on torpedo boats and the "Mulberry Harbour". Returning with his family to Australia in 1948 on the "Empire Brent" he built a two storied house in Lawson Pde. Highett with eyebrow windows in a shingle roof, resplendent with a distinctive spiral chimney and splayed outer wall skirting. The structure was substantially held together with straightened nails from MG packing-crates collected from Port Melbourne by his son John. The house still stands today and apparently was recently re-roofed with new cedar shingles. Anecdotally, a letter from Frank de Kever once arrived from Inverloch simply addressed and with a sketch of the house with the twisted chimney.
